Hi all, My uncle recently received a letter from a WWII researcher who is trying to connect our family with somebody in Croatia who knows of the crash sight from 12/9/1944. My Great-Uncle was Vern Compton, the pilot of the B-24 that went down during mission #126. Does anybody else have a connection to this crew? 484th.org/Crews/825/Compton.htmlThanks!

Confirmed!!! Instead of being lost over the Adriatic plane 44-41120 crashed into Mt. Sniježnica near Kuna, Croatia. Antun Burdelez, an aviation and hiking enthusiast from near Dubrovnik, learned about the crash site from a friend and visited it himself in 2017. He found somebody who had received a silver bracelet that was found at the crash site inscribed with the name of Galen Warnock and serial number 02061087. He also interviewed a couple of 94 year old residents of the area who shared accounts of visiting the site within days of the crash. He has been working with the US Embassy and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency to document everything he has discovered - including some bone fragments. This is tremendously exciting for our family. If anybody is interested in hearing more, please reach out to me via email: andy@comptonak.com.
