My father, Victor P. Ranalletta, died on March 24, 2012, at the age of 91. He served in the Army Air Corps at Toretta Field, from April 1944 through May 1945. He was a navigator-bombadier on "Generator Joe" a B-24H. He was in the 15th Army, 484BG, 827th BS. Dad was very proud of his service, and trained all over the United States before leaving for Italy, including San Diego, Childress, TX, Mississippi, Florida, and Pocatello, Idaho. One of his instructors was the late actor, Jimmy Stewart. Dad was extremely proud of his service. He flew in 32 missions to the Balkans, some under the protection of the "Red Tails", includingthe Battle of Ploesty. We will miss his stories and recollections of the war. Dad was the last of the crew to pass away. I have included a link to his obituary if anyone is interested in viewing it. I greatly enjoy having access to the history of Toretta Field on the Toretta Flyer site. It gives me a continued connection to a part of his life that shaped him as an exemplary man, husband and father. I am sorry to hear of your loss. My Grandfather was Vincent S. Maillard and served aboard Jenerator Joe with your father. He passed away in 1989.
