This is to inform you that my father, William R. Gifford, passed away this past May 9th. www.bradleyfuneralhomes.com/tribute/william-gifford-may-09-2017.htmlI believe he was in the 824th Squadron but would like to confirm that if possible. That's what we had in the obituary but none of his existing military paperwork is that specific and unfortunately there is only one a crew picture from that squadron on the web site. As I go through archives I hope to be able to supply one for his crew. Claude Griffin (Engineer) and Elmer Mc Cully (Co-pilot) were part of his crew. God Bless them all. PS - I'm brand new to this site so if this kind of messaging is not appropriate here my apologies. Thank you. Greg Gifford

Greg Sorry for the loss of your father. There are not many left from these bomber crews. My dad was the radio operator on the Ramp Rooster. I lost him about three years ago. He was the last from his crew. I have their stories up on Facebook under The Boys of the Ramp Rooster. William Gifford was the bombardier for the J.E. White crew of the 824th squadron. You can find a crew picture in Torretta Flyer #33. page #5. The earliest mission that I can find is 12/27/44. They flew additional missions on 1/4/45,1/31,2/5,2/8,2/24,2/17,2/20,2/23,2/27,2/29,3/1,3/4,3/8,3/13,3/16,3/19,3/22,3/25,3/31,4/15,4/16 an 4/17/45. Look under missions on this site and you can find the targets and results for the missions. Hope this helps with your search. Bob Dixon Jr.
