hi I'm new to the forum. i just recently picked up a grouping from a airman in this group. name was Richard e. wood. ( deceased). can anyone help me find the plane he was on. i have names of his other crewman from some pictures. i have a bunch of pictures of planes with the two digits on the front nose. 20, 22, 28, 44, 18, but not even sure one of these planes were his. did his plane have a nickname? some of the names on planes are black jack, fuel cell fanny. if there is any other info that might be needed please feel free, i have every document and citation this man received, d/f cross, air medal w/ 2 clusters. over 100 photo's, his uniform . small diary kept after each mission. I'm just lacking the name of his plane with the serial # if possible. thanks for any answers i might get.

Good morning. And welcome to the 484th Message Board.
This is Hughes Glantzberg. I'm the webmaster for the 484th BG website. I'm afraid I can't find anything in my files for a Richard E. Wood. I do show a Richard S. Wood, but not in the 824th Squadron. This doesn't mean that he wasn't in the 484th. I would be interested in seeing the photos you have. They very well may make great additions to the website. Please feel free to contact me offline at webmaster@484th.org.

If you have a pilot's name you will undoubtedly find something in the Torretta Flyer index. Look for all the crewmembers' names in the index and you may find a letter to the editor or a story written by one of the men on the crew. Some of the missios have a list of the men who flew the mission. Search the index for "mision to ...". There is an operational history for the 484th that shows DFCs and other medals by the month they were awarded and to whom. The Torretta Flyer will be your best source of information but will require some digging.

se dice 824 su di esso Sono sicuro che fosse campo torretta, mio nonno era di stanza lì, ed era l'unico posto B24 di stazionavano anche per mia conoscenza. Questo collegamento dovrebbe avere campo Toretta su di esso.
