The purpose of this message board is to provide people interested in the 484th Bombardment Group (H) a place to ask questions and/or post answer to questions asked by others.
Please feel free to suggest message board topics. If I feel they are appropriate, I'dd add them.

Hi Hughes,
Thank you for getting this board up and running. Can you put a link to the board on the 484th website?
Here's a question. I have head many times about B-24s being sabotaged in such a way that during takeoff they exploded. Supposedly a sergeant was being paid $1500 per plane to put a hand grenade or some other type of explosive into a wheel well where the retracting gear would pull the pin on the grenade or cause the device to explode. It would be nice to pin down the facts because the story is repeated by people who served in many different bomb groups. As the story goes, the sergeant was given a quick trial and then marched out into a field and shot.

I will definitely post a link to here on the 484th website.
I have heard the same story. From what I heard, the enlisted man was part of the 461st and he was definitely shot. I don't have any historical facts to back this up as I suspect it was kept quiet for obvious reasons.

Hello,
I am searching for a member of the 484th who might remember serving with my uncle, Andrew Deak. He was KIA on May 29, 1944. I'd like to pass along the information to my father.
Many thanks and much gratitude for your service.
Regards, Laura

Good morning, Laura. This Message Board is relatively new and we haven't had very many people visiting so far. You might also want to post your note on the B-24 Message Board at b24bw.proboards.com/index.cgi?. There may be someone on there who has information for you.

Hi Laura,
The pilot on your uncle's crew the day he was shot down was Major Don Haldeman. If you search the Torretta Flyer index you will see some references to Haldeman and one is a story by one of the crewmembers, Bill Hogan, about how they were shot down. I'm in touch with a man who knew Haldeman quite well but I don't know if he knew your uncle. I presume that he might have since they all trained together in Harvard, Nebraska.

I have some phptos that my uncle William (Bill) Surapine gave me years ago after he had served with the 15th AF. I Have looked at the photos and believe they are of planes of the 484th Bomb Gp. Did you have a plane named "Flaming Mamie"? Plane No. 55. Most of these photos are of downed planes with a lot of damage. If these photos are of any interest to you, I can send them to you--you can have copies made of the ones you wany/or all of them and return the the originals to me. You can contact me at 'surapine@aol.com' AIM HIGH AIR FORCE GREAT WAY OF LIFE
